Hello all,
I'm dealing with a Power mate 98cc OHV gas generator (pm 0141201). Having to use it for primary power. Last week it stopped working, would not crank. Thought it was a simple empty tank. In trouble shooting, it was discovered that the Intake valve had a spring retainer had popped off and there was damage to the right side of the rocker plate. Three others have tried to bring this thing back to life ... One used JB weld to try repairing the rocker plate ... That broke off ... Other guy put it together and it would not crank still ... Other simply Pulled it apart and did not do much more. I've put it back together twice now, behind these fools. Got the retainer back over the spring. Set the valve clearance and was able to get it to run. Issue I've got the last time I got it running. The retainer popped off the spring again. My question now is: is the damage on the rocker plate? Or is the issue the retainer / intake
Valve popping off the issue, which lead to the rocker plate damage? I'm thinking of fabricating another rocker plate from thicker sheet metal (but it's not my cause for the retainer popping off). The intake valve does not show damage where it catches the retainer. Any suggestions and tips are welcome. I'm new to the generator, but have a few years history with VW air cooled motors and have experience doing Navy preventative maintenance.
